As an IT student of Deakin, I have joined the Deakin Software Engineering Club (Deakinsec.github.io, 2018). I think the club is very helpful besides classes because it brings peer-learners in the uni together. Also, we are guided by many experienced tutors and seniors – they always put their effort in facilitating our knowledge about the industry, by helping with the technical enquiries, organising workshops and coding events for the members, etc.
I also find The Entrepreneur Club of Melbourne (Meetup, 2018) super useful. They have many members who are passionate and successful entrepreneurs, leaders, investors, etc. From the talks those people provide, I would get plenty of profitable knowledge and more insights into many industrial areas.
And the most favourable community of mine is Google. I follow Google on LinkedIn to learn about job opportunities and job requirement. Many of their roles are granted to graduate students and they also post internships at times, which this creates a neutral and positive environment for both the expertise and the freshmen of the company. I think Google is a valuable employer for undergraduates since they are very straightforward with their criteria of resume or interview. In addition, they openly share the experiences of their employees or program attendants such as interviewing, working, and socialising. This is relatively helpful, as those are the knowledge that juniors can make use of, for learning and getting used to the professionalism.
